The job of the transmission shift module is to report to the transmission control element what position the transmission shift levers are in. The transmission shift module circuit board is located below the transmission lever rods, where sensors help it determine the exact position of the lever rods. If the board breaks, you can still change gears manually, but the gearbox remains in the position before the board broke, for example in the park position. The car responds by putting the transmission into limp mode and displaying the P0702 error code on the dashboard. In emergency mode, the car only runs in second gear and changing the lever bars causes the car to bounce. Since you can only drive in second gear, the maximum speed is around 60 km/h. The MIL light will also illuminate in the dashboard.
